A Sense of Permanence

lilt-self-adhesive-wallpaperWhen I had my apartment in Philadelphia during graduate school, or my apartments with and without W in NYC, I was always jealous of papered walls. I would walk into houses or apartments that people owned and proclaim that they were “real people,” because there was something so permanent and settled about wallpaper. Well, thanks to CB2, you can now have that wonderful feeling of permanence in a place that you rent. Self adhesive wallpaper – you stick it up yourself, and the self adhesive backing allows you to remove it when your lease is up. Genius. And these patterns are pretty great too …branchesorbit paper 1 branches 3Orbit paper 2branches 2And as you know, wallpaper can be fabulous in places other than the walls … lining drawers, the back of bookshelves, wallpapering a table, making a lampshade … the possibilities are endless! And what is great about this CB2 paper is that if you hate it, just take it off! Love a non-committal wallpaper. Click on the photos to be re-routed to the site.

Deco Darlings

17Thought I would end the week with a little fantasy Friday, and let you all browse through these fabulous art deco posters. These posters make everything look luxe and beautiful, from bicycles to Vermouth, Lake Placid to Australia. These are from a collection compiled in the newly published book The Art Deco Poster, available through Vendome Press, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon. I highly recommend it. This is the perfect coffee table book: it is a wonderfully large scale, the pictures are beautiful, and its definitely a conversation starter. Somehow posters for airlines and advertisements for alcohol are just no longer as special. So whether or not you have any fun plans for the weekend, why not escape through these posters? 129-l 153 205 219 238 277 290 171

8 Knots in the Polar Vortex

IMG_1795The polar vortex is really starting to get to me. I know, I know, you all are thinking that I’m crazy because I live in Charleston and it cannot be that cold here. Well let’s just say that this Wednesday, Charleston South Carolina is expecting snow. That’s right, you heard me, SNOW. So in an effort to think tropical thoughts I am sharing a fun beach towel brand with you which I discovered at Indigo & Cotton here in Charleston.

The company is called 8 knots, and it was started in the summer of 2009 in Shelter Island, NY. They come in three additional colors, which are all available through Indigo & Cotton here in Charleston. Click on any of the towel photos to be re-routed to the Indigo & Cotton website.  8 knots towel 4The towels are made of 100% cotton grown in Turkey. No terry cloth here, these towels are quite thin and so they dry really quickly, which is great when you’re on the beach!8 knots towel 2Not only do they make great beach towels, they could work as beach blankets, throws, and of course wraps and pareos.8 knots towel 3I’m actually thinking that they would be wonderful towels in a bathroom. We already have two of them in our beach bag, which have been dubbed W’s towels because my husband loves them so much. Perhaps I should go steal one from the beach bag and see how it looks in the master bathroom …
