On My Way to Panarea

Screen Shot 2014-03-12 at 9.13.57 AMLately, I have been bitten by the travel bug. I’m sure that bug bite is not helped by the NY Times travel section, Town & Country’s Travel Issue, and Elle Decoration UK’s Travel Report – which of course I spent the weekend scouring from my porch in Charleston. Not surprisingly I have added a new destination to my “must go” list … Panarea.

Screen Shot 2014-03-12 at 9.14.54 AMPanarea is the smallest and the lowest of Italy’s Aeolian Islands. Located south of the mainland and north of Sicily, Panarea is apparently extremely difficult to get to. There are no cars and no airports, and the island can only be accessed by hydrofoil or helicopter. Sign me up.

Screen Shot 2014-03-12 at 9.14.19 AMThe island has no banks and no streetlights, and is covered in olive trees, hibiscus, and bougainvillea (a favorite). People stroll around in caftans and flat sandals, show up at their neighbors houses for long wine filled dinners, and spend their days sunning on the rooftops of their tiny villas. It is one of those islands where there is really only one place to stay … Hotel Raya.

I would like to start this post by saying a big thank you to all my extremely loyal readers, and a big thank you to all of you who have been so complimentary about our house being in the March issue of Southern Living. I have gotten some comments that people really enjoyed seeing my kitchen, but that the photos in the magazine were a tad small and they would like to see them larger. Well here are larger photos of my kitchen for you all to enjoy, and I have included a few more sources than the magazine. I would love to hear your thoughts.

It’s Friday, Let’s Celebrate!

Time to celebrate! A big thank you to all of you who were so congratulatory yesterday about our Southern Living story – it was much appreciated. So today, in honor of my excitement over your comments and support, it’s time for a cocktail party! Click on the photos and/or the item names to be redirected to the websites. Sparkle Trimmed Tumbler Champagne Bubble GlassesLoving both of these sets of glasses from Anthropologie. I purchased the Sparkle Rimmed Tumblers (top) and used them as water glasses on my Christmas table. And these Champagne Bubble Glasses (bottom) are so much fun! They really make every drink look celebratory. Gold Cheese Knives set Cheese Board WEI think the set of Gold Cheese Knives and the Marble and Wood Cheese Board from West Elm would definitely be perfect for the cocktail party spread. I am lucky enough to live just down the street from Charleston’s amazing goat.sheep.cow., where you can provide your own platter and the wonderful staff at goat.sheep.cow. will choose your meets, cheeses, other delicacies, and style the platter for you! Which is exactly what I did during the Southern Living shoot, and the platter is featured in one of the garden shots.Screen Shot 2014-02-21 at 9.19.17 AM Screen Shot 2014-02-21 at 9.23.22 AMFinally, these Gold Flecked Cork Ice Bucket and Coasters from C. Wonder are to die for. Just throw some ice in the bucket and put some of that Anthropologie glassware on those coasters, and we’re ready to party! Happy Friday!
