Scouring World Market for a National Holiday

Rustic-Natural-Table-Setting-feathers1Last year I hosted my first Thanksgiving. I had a blast planning the table scape really far in advance and picking everything myself. This year, we’re going back up north to be with my family in Connecticut, and yesterday my mother and I started talking about planning her table scape. My mother said that this year she wanted to go for a more “natural” look on the Thanksgiving table – maybe even a little rustic. As we were discussing all the pieces, I suggested that she go online and check out some moderately priced things from World Market. Well you can imagine my surprise when she said, “what’s World Market?”. World Market is great, it can be hit or miss, but often has some great little finds for low prices. Simple glassware, for instance, is great at World Market – baskets, napkins – the list goes on. So today I thought I would try and piece together my mother’s rustic/natural Thanksgiving table with some finds from World Market. WM TableclothFirst, the Ivory Hotel Linen Tablecloth as a base. WM ChargerThen, add Driftwood Chargers.WM PlatePlace the Nantucket Plates atop the Driftwood Chargers … WM NapkinAnd add the Parchment Hemstitch Napkins. WM FlatwareThe Danieli Flatware gives a homegrown rustic feel to the table.WM GlasswareFollowed by some Tortoiseshell glassware for the water.WM BasketPerhaps a Madras Oval Basket for the bread … WM Cake StandAnd a Wood Bark Pedestal Stand for your Pumpkin Pie! And voila – a rustic table courtesy of World Market. Click on the photos to be redirected to the World Market website. Happy Thanksgiving table scaping!

Cheap and Chic of the Week: Almsta

Screen Shot 2013-09-11 at 7.16.53 AMIkea. Who doesn’t love Ikea? In Tom Scheerer Decorates, which I reviewed HERE on Friday, Scheerer talks about being a big fan of Ikea from its earliest inception, and that he still uses Ikea products in his schemes even today.  Ikea is a favorite stop of mine as well, whether its buying a raw wood table and lacquering it to use as a desk, or buying rattan chairs and spray coating them so that they will survive outdoors, I’m pretty sure there are at least 6 ikea chairs in operation at my house. But this chair is new.

Screen Shot 2013-09-11 at 7.16.44 AMThe Almsta chair costs $99(!) and would work well almost anywhere in your home. You could keep it its natural raw color, or paint it a scheme to match one in your house – it is extremely malleable. The different surfaces allow for obvious application of varying colors, so there is also an opportunity to paint it like a more traditional bistro chair that you could purchase finished for much more money. I see a DIY project in my future, don’t you?

A Piece of SoHo in Chucktown

As most of you know, I moved down to Charleston from New York last September. Charleston is absolutely wonderful, and I wouldn’t have left New York for a city any less fabulous. That being said, going from living on the Upper East Side and working in SoHo to living in Charleston, I find that I miss some of the shopping opportunities that I had in the Big Apple. This is why I was quite pleased to learn that C. Wonder will be opening a location on King Street in Charleston this summer.

logoFor those of you who aren’t familiar with C. Wonder, it is the brainchild of Christopher Burch, a longtime fixture on the clothing/lifestyle brand scene, who also happens to be Tory’s ex-husband. C. Wonder opened its first shop on Lafayette Street in SoHo when I was working just a few blocks away on Greene Street. As much as the clothing and accessories are cute, it is the home decor section (surprise) that I find most exciting. I am so looking forward to seeing how Burch arranges his space here in the Holy City. For those of you unfamiliar with the brand, below are a few of my current favorites at the store.

C_Wonder_1That is one of the best things about the C. Wonder store – the prices are so reasonable! Perfect for that Lacquered Life Cheap and Chic look. Looking forward to shopping for some decorative accessories when C. Wonder comes to town. All of the items featured here are currently available on CWonder.com
