We all have our favorite designers, the ones whose taste we admire and appreciate. Sometimes the designers that we appreciate have a signature accent that we wish we could emulate. Remember Tom Scheerer and the bird prints? Well in many of my favorite Jeffrey Bilhuber rooms, the designer uses a seagrass matting that I have always coveted. It is not a rug per se, but rather woven squares sewn together with no backing. When I was living in New York, I was constantly on the lookout for this matting, and every time I found it in a rug specialty store, the price was just too much to bear.
It is just the right accent of casual in some of Bilhuber’s more serious rooms, and gives the impression of that “lived in” atmosphere that I am always such a big fan of.
