Gossip Girls

oomphThe Gossip Chair from Connecticut-based furniture manufacturer, Oomph. Needless to say I am in love. Essentially a slipper chair, which we all know I’m a big fan of, with another chair on the opposing side. A perfect piece of furniture for dividing two seating areas in the living room, or an interesting piece for that corner you just can’t figure out what to do with … think about this chair in front of a fireplace! Heaven. Oh, and did I mention that it is on casters? So when you’re having that wonderful soiree and you need extra seating, this chair can be wheeled around. Oomph offers a selection of fabrics for their Gossip Chair, however, you can also supply them with your own. Could you imagine THIS chair in Pyne Hollyhock Chintz? Screen Shot 2014-06-04 at 9.09.43 AM Screen Shot 2014-06-04 at 9.09.49 AMteteateteThe idea behind Oomph’s Gossip Chair is not completely revolutionary. It seems that it is loosely based on the Courting Chair, or Tete a Tete, which was developed in 18th century England and France to allow cozy, albeit appropriate conversation between people of the opposite sex. Whilst the traditional Tete a Tete has the seat occupants facing each other, the Gossip Chair has them facing away from each other. However, based on the name I think the ladies of Oomph expect some whispering to be going on between those seated in the Gossip Chair. Over time, the 18th and 19th century Courting Chair became today’s love seat. Screen Shot 2014-06-04 at 9.09.51 AMSo, let’s chat!
